Fatoumatta L. Kassama
Fatoumatta Kassama has over seven years of experience working as a nurse for the Ministry of Health of The Gambia. A registered nurse and an ophthalmic medical assistant, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and Reproductive Health from The University of The Gambia. Fatoumatta runs a social enterprise that provides reusable sanitary pads and baby diapers for women, girls and children in The Gambia. She hopes to promote maternal and child health, keep girls in schools during their period, end gender-based violence, reduce waste generated during menstruation and create job opportunities for Gambian youth. Aside from her business, Fatoumatta is involved in community services. She is the Co-founder and Program Manager of Prospect For Girls, a not-for-profit organisation that empowers women and girls through vocational skills training and health education. Fatoumatta started her organisation, EYE CARE FOR ALL in 2016 with only $10. Every month, she uses $10 from her salary to buy glaucoma eye drops. She also initiated the Prison Project in 2019 that conducted free eye screening and provided eye drops for inmates in all the prisons in The Gambia. Fatoumatta is a 2017 Mandela Washington Fellow, a 2018 One Young World Ambassador and Delegate Speaker, a 2019 Obama Foundation Leader, and a 2019 Young African Leaders Summit- Future Leader of the Year Nominee.
