Gambia Diaspora Health Initiative (GDHI)
The Gambia Diaspora Healthcare Initiative (GDHI) is a non-government organisation of Diaspora Gambians across all continents. Founded in July 2017, the GDHI is committed to significantly improving the healthcare system in The Gambia through the provision of medical supplies, education, advocacy, training and support. In 2017, the GDHI donated medical supplies as Christmas donations to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, Bakau Army Medical Center, Gunjur Health Center and Brikama District Hospital. The organisation also undertook several assessment visits to many hospitals and clinics during which they observed that many of these facilities lack critical medical equipment. Responding to this, the GDHI launched a global fundraising campaign which ended with a shipment to The Gambia of two full containers of medical supplies and laboratory equipment worth $500,000.
