The Institute for Social Reformation and Action (ISRA), is a Gambian-based NGO with interventions in key sectors, especially the educational. ISRA is committed to providing livelihood skills to Talibehs (Koranic students) in the Majalis (Koranic schools) to enable them deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life, and to participate more effectively in the national development process. With support from national and international partners, ISRA is working with 50 Majalis (Koranic schools/centres) with coverage of over 3000 children. Through this partnership, ISRA provides educational materials and energy supplies like solar lamps, hygienic and bedding materials. The organisation is also addressing the health and sanitary conditions of these Koranic schools with decent toilets facilities. ISRA facilitators also provide literacy and numeracy classes for a minimum of 10 hours per week to the Koranic students.
