MRC Holland Foundation
MRC-Holland Foundation has become a household name as one of the largest contributors to the education sector in The Gambia. Solely sponsored by Mr. Jan Schouten’s company in Amsterdam, the Foundation to date has, among others, funded and handed over 1180 furnished classrooms to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. In 2019 alone, construction of 509 classrooms, 780 toilets and 240 teacher housing rooms were started in all regions of The Gambia. The Foundation funded the country’s first-ever rural college in Basse, an annex of The Gambia College. The effort is to ensure teacher availability in the east of the country. The first batch of teachers for the college is undergoing training. In addition, approximately 1000 students are currently benefiting from a scholarship to pursue higher education.
