Talib Ahmed Bensouda

Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda, born in 1986, is the youngest mayor in Gambian history. In 2018, at just 31 years old, Talib blazed to a stunning victory in the KMC mayoral elections. His unique campaign style focused on development as evident by his manifesto, Talib has the desire to transform the municipality by providing services to its residents and creating employment for its youth. In just one year and nine months in office, the mayor has been impactful with many achievements including: introduction of 500 street bins to the municipality, employment of 200 personnel in new projects; improvement of market structures; a staggering D100 million small business loan packages for women and D 20million loan packages for the youth. Talib’s most notable project, the ‘Mbalit’ Project, reintroduced residential and commercial waste collection throughout the municipality via 24 new garbage truck fleet with over 100 staff. His immediate plans include the building of the first municipal library at the tune of $3.5million and the construction of 10 new standard markets in the KMC.
